In Front of the Lens: Getting Real with Mrs. Lazy Spoon

2020 Lisa Wotherspoon (Nicole Romanoff Photography)

It’s Valentine’s Day, and what better day to show some love to my clients and kick off my FEATURE FRIDAY BLOG posts! Beginning this Friday, and continuing every Friday after, I will be featuring an interview with a client of mine. I want this to be an opportunity to shine the spotlight on the amazing people I connect with in the studio. Every single person has a story, has something to share, and we can all learn from each other and unite to make our lives better, and the ultimately the world better.

The very first feature is with Lisa Wotherspoon. I met Lisa in Regina at one of my portrait session days with Sara Lindsay and Tyler Caragata, and I instantly connected with her! Lisa had such strength and honesty in her presence and I felt so inspired hearing about her work with the school system, and her popular lifestyle blog. I hope you enjoy learning about Lisa as I did through this interview, and don’t hesitate to reach out to her (contact below)!

I hope you enjoy reading these feature posts! These people have really opened up and answered honestly, and I’m so grateful for that. Finally, please leave a comment below! It’s sometimes a lonely place on these blogs, and I’d love to hear who’s reading - so don’t be shy.. say hello!

Q1 - Who is Lisa Wotherspoon AKA MRS. Lazy Spoon?

I was born and raised in Regina, SK but married a farmer seven years ago and moved to the country. We live on a mixed farm in Saskatchewan producing cattle and organic crops. I have a 26-year-old son who lives in Calgary and works in broadcasting.  We have one fur baby our Shiloh Shepard, Dooker. By day, I am a Superintendent of Education working tirelessly to increase the life chances of our children through high-quality education. My side hustle is a lifestyle blog I started a year ago as a creative outlet. I love to write and create pretty things. My blog is a way for me to share a little story about a city girl who married a country boy and how they spend their days enjoying food, wine and traveling the world together. I also love creating charcuterie boards and baking and I'm working on my food photography skills.

Q2- What does a day in life look like for you?

I wake up at 5:00 a.m. on week days and use the first hour of my day to move, meditate and grow. Then it's off on my 30 minute commute to my office where I get to spend the day working with dedicated educators and amazing young people. If it's seeding or harvest time, I'm probably coming home to a slow cooker or Instant Pot meal to pack up and take out to the field. Supper dates in the tractor are the best! I try to spend 1 hour per evening creating content for my blog and growing my business. I'm also a Netflix binge watcher so I'm definitely crawling into bed to watch an episode of The Crown or Grace & Frankie.

Q3- What is one thing that most people don't know about you?

I hate feet...especially toenails! I tolerate pedicures because I have to keep my feet looking nice but, there are many rules for the poor esthetician. My close friends actually know how much I hate feet and they like to torment me with this information.

Q4- If you could fix one thing in the world what would it be?

There are so many things but ultimately, I dream of a world where everyone can simply be who they want to be without feeling shame or being judged. I dream of a world where kindness and love always win. Oh, and I'd do something about how hideous feet are!

Q5-Would you be willing to share a couple of your goals for 2020?

I chose 4 words for 2020: Grit, Growth, Gratitude, and Glitter. This year I plan to continue to live my best life and find passion in all that I do, even when it gets hard.  To keep learning and growing and becoming the best version of myself every day. To be mindful of the moments that bring me joy and give thanks for those moments. And always shine (hence the Glitter). I was going for alliteration.

Q6- What inspired you to book a photoshoot, and what do you plan to use the photos for?

Primarily the headshots are for my blog and marketing. I am working on landing a few collaboration opportunities this year and I knew that beautiful photos would definitely help me achieve a more polished, professional look for my blog and media kit. I'm also working on a blog post about self-love and body image and I knew that a photoshoot would push me out of my comfort zone and force me to do something I haven't done in over 20 years. It was so much fun!

Q7- What is your favourite photo, and why?

I didn't pick this photo initially, Nicole did. But the more I look at it the more I see a true and authentic me. I have a big smile, a loud laugh and the facial lines to prove it. I won't apologize for any of it.
